MULGA obtained grants between 1993 and 2006 to establish 11 small fenced exclosures in parts of the Maldon Historic Reserve, to protect both the existing native vegetation and future natural regeneration from damage by animals, particularly rabbits.
Various grants in the 1990's to earn 2000's funded the erection of rabbit-proof fences for 11 exclosures. Mt. Alexander Shire Council funded the purchase of a sign to attach to the fence of each exclosure, through a Community Grant in 2015-2016
It's very interesting to see the difference in the flora between inside and outside the fenced exclosures, which have now been in place for more than 10 years. The location of the site impacts on changes in flora in the exclosure over time, e.g. soil type, aspect with respect to weather.
