Love your mum and love the planet! Planting day at "The Poplars" Forest Creek, Castlemaine

We call it the 'Poplars' site because there used to be a sea of poplars here.  They were removed in 2017 by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) because they are an invasive species which crowds out everything else.

Then in May last year we had two great working bees to plant about 1500 plants - trees, shrubs, grasses and sedges. The area now looks much better but it is not finished yet.

This month, we will continue this work and add more than 800 plants.

So this Mother's Day, Sunday 12 May, we would really welcome your help!  Come along and plant something for (or with) your Mum to celebrate this special day and help us to restore this area for community use and to increase the diversity of plants in the area.

Please wear stout footwear and bring gardening gloves.  The ground is rough, there are some hazards like old blackberry brambles, and some poplar stumps and roots.

There is limited parking available on Happy Valley Rd  but you may be better off parking on Pyrenees Highway (near Best Motors) and walking 200 m to the planting area (see map below).

We will plant from 9.30 am - 12.00 pm and morning tea will be available.

Bring your kids, your Mum and your friends.
