The Wises Creek Talgarno Landcare Group covers a number of sub-catchments which feed into the Murray River east of Lake Hume. The area nominally starts just past Bellbridge and includes Talgarno, Georges Creek, Wises Creek through to Thologolong, Granya and Bungil.


The group was formed in 1993 and the area covered has expanded considerably in recent years.  It is involved in a range of Landcare activities as the area suffers from major gully and creek erosion in some catchments, widespread weed infestations and native vegetation fragmentation.
Our landcare area is composed of farms and hobby farms, holiday blocks, weir frontage, parks and reserves.  Many landholders work off-farm, or are lifestyle farmers, commuting to Wodonga or Albury.  So, you don?t have to be large landowner to join us.
We actively encourage community and individual projects such as gully restoration, pasture improvement, establishment of wildlife corridors, soil biology improvement and biodiversity projects. We have a spray unit and a fence post driver for hire and can assist with costs associated with fencing, supply of trees and understorey vegetation by way of professionally prepared funding applications.
 
We meet three times per year at the Talgarno Public School and work closely with local departmental representatives to give the local landholder the best outcome.
 
The group distributes information on field days/workshops that are held in our region We have already made a significant impact on the local environment with many large tree plantings on public and private land. We have contributed to the protection of native remnant vegetation and work with authorities to develop roadside protection plans and strategies.
