The Group was formed in 1993 by five farming families along Dewings Bridge Road, Gerangamete, and originally named the Gerangamete Flats Landcare Group. It was initially set up to manage a revegetation project and monitor the results. The Group has since expanded to support landowners in the Gerangamete, Barwon Downs, Forrest and Yeodene area, including 20 plus farming families and residents in towns with an environmental interest. The group retains an interest in the health of Boundary Creek and the Barwon catchment.
The priorities of the Group are:
1) to advocate for the health of the Barwon River to meet the needs of farmers and the community, Traditional Owners, the environment and water users outside the catchment
2) to control pest plants and animals and work with landowners and authorities to revegetate degraded land within the Group’s area, especially waterways and riparian zones
3) to build community awareness and connection through practical environment-related projects.
Membership is based in the areas of Gerangamete, Forrest and Barwon Downs. The group has a long history of revegetation and environmental rehabilitation works.
