Expressions of interest (EOI) are now open for an intensive short course for women in agriculture from the Wimmera area.

The Inspiring Rural Women in Agriculture short course will cover a range of topics including:

  • The art and benefits of networking
  • Achieving a balance between business, family and life
  • Marketing yourself and your business
  • Strategic planning, goal setting and risk management
  • Characteristics of successful rural businesses
  • Making the money work for your farming business.

Course participants will also develop their own action learning project to start putting the theory into practice and exploring how they might take their agricultural business to the next level. Projects completed by past participants include: developing a website for marketing their business online, exploring the feasibility of processing and marketing manure from their feedlot and preparing a values and mission statement for their farm with all family members’ input.

Course participants can expect:

  1. A ready-made network of like-minded women.
  2. Access to experts, presenters and successful business operators.
  3. Tips on how to make rural businesses work for you and your family dynamic.
  4. The opportunity to explore ideas, develop plans and road test products and services with others.
  5. Motivation, tools and other practical strategies to give you the confidence and courage to move forward.
  6. The environment to clarify what is a priority to you, your business and your family.
  7. An understanding of your strengths and how to use them to develop your unique business proposition.
  8. A chance to turn your passion into a business and money!!

Course presenters

Dr Kristy Howard is the Managing Director of Inspiring Excellence. It is her passion to inspire rural communities, people and businesses to achieve excellence through professional and personal learning and growth.  Cheryl Graham is a director of Farming answers, a practical, farmer focused consultancy business based in North East Victoria. Cheryl has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Systems Agriculture). For further information about Cheryl’s work please visit her website: www.farminganswers.com. 

The 4 day short course is aligned to units of competency from AHC40110 Certificate IV in Agriculture:

  • BSBRSK401A Identify risk and apply risk management processes
  • PSPPM402A Manage simple projects
  • BSBCMM401A Make a presentation
  • AHCBUS403A Support and review business structures and relationships
  • BSBWOR402A Promote team effectiveness

Course location

The Course will be held in Edenhope, commencing on the 21st & 22nd July 2015. Participants are required to book and pay for their own accommodation. Accommodation is available at the Edenhope Motel, or search online for alternative accommodation options.

Course fees

This course is supported by funding from the Australian Government’s Regional Landcare Facilitator project, which is hosted by the Wimmera CMA, in partnership with 4 Up Skilling. Subsequently the course is being offered at the highly discounted rate of $285 per person (normally $650). Course fees include:

  • Workshops over four days
  • Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea
  • Networking dinner
  • Course notes, guides and planning templates
  • A diverse network of key contacts and ongoing peer support group.
