What a busy month it’s been with a very major event being successfully run on Sunday March 22. Wimmera Landcare and Wimmera CMA had the pleasure of working with Chris Humfrey from Wild Action Zoo. He is a passionate presenter making the point clear to his over 500 strong crowd that a suitable habitat is so important for all our native mammals, birds and reptiles.

Children enjoyed getting my recently designed and printed Animal Tattoos, Mask colouring and getting up close and personal with some of our native animals. We were amazed that his kookaburra loved making his calls into the microphone on Chris’s cue!

After the presentation was over, everyone tucked into a delicious afternoon tea with its many multicultural flavours. The organising committee and those who attended appreciated and thanked the Holy Trinity Lutheran School for the use of their wonderful state-of-the-art assembly hall.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped in the kitchen under a fair amount of pressure! In conjunction with the event, we ran a habitat design competition.

It was wonderful news that Selena Winfield won a prize! There were some amazing entries in all age groups, so congratulations Selena. I hope you are enjoying your bag full of goodies!

Late last year the Fire Recovery Committee and Laharum Landcare bought 15 flat-packed nest boxes for various birds and animals for the students at Laharum Primary School to construct.

Those assisting were very impressed by the construction skills of the students. Painting of the boxes is complete and it is hoped that they can be presented to members of the community that have had their properties affected by fire.

Landcare events -

Sunday May 10 - Mothers Day afternoon with Clive Blazey, Founder of Diggers Seeds. He will be sharing his wealth of knowledge with the Horsham community to be held at the Special School. There will also be preserving demonstrations. I am keen to encourage those with so many wonderful skills to share them with our children - jam making, bottling and dehydrating just to name a few. If you would like to assist me with this activity, please give me a call on 5383 6220.

Sunday May 24 10.30am - Fascinating Fungi with Geoff Lay. I have been told that Geoff is a wonderful speaker and really looking forward to him coming to Laharum Hall to tell us all about our fungi.

Put this in your diary!
