This project is live

This was the first project our newly invigorated group undertook in 2007.
Over the past few years the Yinnar-Yinnar South Landcare group has been holding working bees on Whitelaws Track Yinnar South near the tip site, to pull out by hand rather than spraying an infestation of broom.
We've chosen this management method to preserve many native orchids such as Nodding Greenhoods which would be destroyed along with the broom were we to use a herbicide spray. As the years have passed, the density of broom specimens has reduced, however we will remain vigilant as one mature plant can produce up to 10,000 seeds per season.
The site has both Montpelier Broom (Genista monspessulana) andFlax-leaf Broom (Genista linifolia). Montpelier Broom is declared a noxious weed in Victoria
