Wonyip Landcare Group represents Landholders in the Wonyip area. Wonyip is an active and forward-thinking group and are involved in everything from planning with HVP Plantations for the re-establishment of native vegetation along riparian areas within plantation land, to weed and fox control on their own land.
In 2007, the Group was successful in receiving funding from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to establish Wildlife Corridors for the Tiger Quoll (otherwise known as the Spot-tail Quoll).HVP have been a major partner in the Project, and have provided the land upon which the Corridors will be established.Stages 1 and 2 of the Project were completed in the spring of 2007, with some 4000 Eucalypts being planted by the Group.A further 4000 trees were planted into Stage 3a of the Project at the end of 2000, and a further 4000 were planted at the end of winter in 2009, to complete Stage 3b of the Project and completed the Corridor in that area of HVP plantations.
In 2014/15 the Group received further funding from the Victorian and Federal Governments to extend the corridor into the Dingo Creek and Agnes River Catchments one of the prime systems leading into Corner Inlet a renowned Ramsar site by removing Blackberry infestation.
Currently in 2016/17 further funding has allowed removal of willows and revegetation along Dingo Creek and the Agnes River system.
Members of the Wonyip Landcare Group are actively involved as Waterwatch volunteers to monitor water quality in these catchments.
