The Powlett Project is a steering committee that covers the 5 landcare groups in the Powlett catchment. The project aims to coordinate funding and on ground projects to generate the optimum outcome for the whole of the catchment. The project was originally triggered by the need mitigate the large amount of effluent pouring into Foster creek from the Korumburra sale yards, and has since it began in 1996 has spread down the entire catchment to the sea. In that time the project has put 1,630,000 plants in the ground.

OBJECTIVES
As part of the action planning process, the Powlett Project identified eight key objectives these are:
Increase vegetation cover
Maintain community/corporate relationships and community planting days
Control with the aim to eradicate Pest Plants and animals
Promote education and Research
Protect Biodiversity
Improve Water Quality
Reduce of Erosion
Actively seek funding and Support
ACTIONS
From these objectives Powlett Project identified key Goals which have been prioritised and are linked with generic actions to tackle them. Many issues are interrelated and cannot be tackled on their own.
1. Increase vegetation cover
Reduce erosion, salinity
Hold 1 salinity field day annually (Project Officer – Annually)
Make recharge areas a priority for revegetation project
Encourage revegetation
2. Maintain corporate, government and community relationships
Sharing resources across social catchments and multiple land uses
Involving corporate organisations, community groups, members, individuals
Continue to support local indigenous seed banks and nurseries
Develop new and maintain partnerships Universities/TAFES/Schools
Educate landholders
Promote Junior Landcare
Encourage community planting days
Liaise with government agencies
