Merriman Creek Landcare Group members actively participate in Landcare activities throughout their region of Stradbroke - Seaspray. Notably, they have been engaged in several landscape level projects that targets Merriman Creek between the South Gippsland Highway and Seaspray. One such project was known as the Merriman Creek Biodiversity Project. This Project involved spraying much of the length of the Creek for woody weeds between the South Gippsland Highway and Owen's Lane. Other projects include the follow up treatment of pest plants along Merriman Creek, monitoring of African Lovegrass and Serrated Tussock infestations, trapping of Indian Myna populations and hosting Field Days relating to Soil Health and Pest Plant and Animal Control Programs. The group usually meets four times per year.
Our current project is funded by a Communities for Nature grant. Spraying of woody weeds along Merriman Creek between Stradbroke West and Seaspray has been completed. Roadside spraying of blackberry from Gormandale to the South Gippsland Highway has also been completed. Plans are now underway to host a water quality workshop with our project partner, Gippsland Water and the Seaspray Primary School. Other activities planned for later in the year include community revegetation projects and a Weed Identification workshop.
