The grant funding will support the effort of landowners and members of the Mardan-Mirboo North Landcare Group to tackle the devastating impact of erosion on soil quality and sustainable agriculture. The revegetation work supported by the grant funding will stabilise land where erosion has occurred, improve local biodiversity through the planting of native species, and help to reverse the loss of habitat for native fauna, including koalas.
The grant funding directly supports the activities of the Mardan-Mirboo North Landcare Group by helping achieve the objectives contained in the group’s strategic plan and its mission of protecting and enhancing the local environment and strengthening regenerative farming and sustainable land management practice.
Project activities will include: conducting two community field days to visit landslip and erosion sites in the Mardan-Mirboo North Landcare Group area; producing an information resource to document erosion and landslip remediation works at these sites; fencing and revegetation of areas where erosion mitigation works have been carrried out by landholders.
Two community planting days will also be run to contribute to revegetation efforts.
