Truganina Park was once the Altona Landfill tip, but is now a wonderful recreation and conservation park.
A key feature of the park is the 100 Steps to Federation. The steps lead to the highest land point between Melbourne and the You Yangs, where you?ll be amazed by the views of the city, Port Phillip Bay, and the surrounding internationally significant wetlands.
The Notla concrete drain which used to run through the park has been reformed to create the Truganina Wetlands, which filter stormwater, provide habitat and is an attractive landscape addition to the Parklands.
The Friends of Truganina Parklands have help to plant up these wetlands and the garden beds surrounding the Time beacon at the summit of the 100 Steps. They have also helped to protect habitat of the Altona Skipper Butterfly through plantings and clean up days.
