A walk and talk with David Baker-Gabb, former Director of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (now Birds Australia), followed by the AGM
David Baker-Gabb was the Director of the Royal Australian Ornithologists Union (now Birds Australia) from 1993 to1997 and Conservation Manager from 1997. He was also a threatened fauna manager with the Victorian Department of Conservation and Natural Resources from 1990 to 1992. A St Andrews resident, David has led courses at Bird Observatories and many bird study trips; and has worked as an Environmental Consultant since 1997.
David will give us some tips on observing local birds, and lead us on a short walk to see what bird species we can see/hear in some of the local Christmas Hills habitats. Feel free to also share any significant bird observations you have made in Christmas Hills.
Then it will be time to get some breakfast and elect the Christmas Hills Landcare Group management committee for 2013.
In addition to the usual sunscreen, hat and sturdy footwear, if you have them please bring a pair of binoculars and a bird field guide book.
If you have the bird call app (Morcombe's Birds of Australia eGuide) on your smart phone we can play with that too.
In the event that Sunday, 10th February is declared a Total Fire Ban day, this event will be automatically postponed to the same time and place on Sunday, 17th February

7:15am – 9:30am Observing birds in Christmas Hills – walk and talk with David Baker-Gabb
9:30am – 10:30am Breakfast – join your neighbours for a social meal – choose from croissants, fruit salad, egg-and-bacon sandwiches, bircher muesli
10:00am – 10:30am AGM – over breakfast management committee elections will be held and the program of events for 2013 will be determined
