Sheepwash Creek Landcare Group formed in 1997 to protect and enhance biodiversity and water quality within the catchment.
Flowing through Mandurang and Strathfieldsaye near Bendigo, within metres of the geographical centre of Victoria, Sheepwash Creek is a 17km long seasonal stream that feeds into Axe Creek, which flows into the Campaspe River, and ultimately into the Murray River.
Once a thriving waterway which was home to platypus, turtles, blackfish and water-rats, the creek environment has been significantly modified by the impacts of settlement, gold mining, farming and more recently suburbanisation.
In fact, the vegetation communities in the valley are classified as endangered, and they are home to a number of threatened species of plants and animals.
