The North Harcourt Sedgwick Landcare group was among the first 20 Landcare groups established in Victoria, forming in 1988. Covering approximately 12,500 hectares, the region sits in Central Victoria on the lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung. We acknowledge the Dja Dja Wurrung and their ongoing connection, knowledge and protection of Djandak (Country).
The North Harcourt Sedgwick Landcare Group Inc is established to be a charity with the purpose of protecting and enhancing the natural environment of the districts of North Harcourt and Sedgwick and, as appropriate, the surrounding regions. This will be achieved by;
a) encouraging and facilitating approaches to caring for native biodiversity, including but not limited to the planting of indigenous and native plant species and the control of invasive weeds and pests;
b) facilitating community connection to foster cooperative neighbourhood approaches to caring for the land;
c) fostering an interest in nature and the environment in a diverse range of community members to encourage ongoing engagement with care of the environment;
d) providing education and promoting resources relating to care of the environment, sustainable land management and local biodiversity.
The group has sponsored tree planting work, collected locally indigenous seed for re-vegetation, fostered networking and shared learning, and assisted landholders with tree growing, vermin and weed control, water catchments and biodiversity. Current projects include tree planting (including re-establishing a Silver Banksias population in the region), weed control events, guided wildlife walks, and providing relevant property management information to land holders.
