Wooragee Landcare has been involved with the control of Paterson's Curse in the area for many years. This project is an extension to work the group has previously undertaken to assist land managers control this noxious weed.
Paterson's curse, Echium plantagineum, is a noxious weed of European origin that now occurs in most states of Australia and is mainly a problem in pastures, on roadsides and in degraded and disturbed areas. It reduces agricultural productivity by competing with more nutritious pasture plants and because it is toxic to livestock when ingested continuously
This project aims to assist with the control of Paterson's Curse on areas that are not easily accessible for the use of conventional control methods.
The group is organising collection days for 4 control agents, Flea and Pollen Beetle and Root and Crown Weevil.
