This event is part of
Two workshops discussing the use of Biological control agents (insects & fungal diseases) and their collection & dispersal techniques for local weed control.
We are running 2 workshops (Harrietville 9,30 am-12.30pm & Beechworth 2pm-4.30pm) discussing the use of biological control agents to assist in the control of local weeds.
Dr Robyn Adair will give a run down on which agents are available for each weed, discuss new and potential agents and how agents impact their host. Harvesting & dispersal techniques and appropriate timings for harvest will be a component of the workshop.
Our Ovens Landcare Network has been trialing several agents locally on problem environmental weeds. This has resulted in establishing a nursery site for the harvest of broom gall mite, plant host English broom- we have seen a proliferation of this weed after several seasons of good growing conditions. (Attendees will be invited to attend our harvest field day in Spring for this agent for further distribution.)
