You are invited to assist with sampling of Aporrectodea longa earthworm nursery sites.
We will be sampling earthworm nursery sites in the North East in early September. Earthworm and dung beetle specialist, Dr Bernard Doube will be visiting six of the sites to provide his expertise. The aim is to determine whether the deep-burrowing earthworm, Aporrectodea longa has bred successfully at the nursery sites. We are looking for volunteers to assist with the sampling process.
Sampling involves removing soil at various depths, sieving soil, washing, drying, sorting and weighing earthworm cocoons, juveniles and adults, as well as recording data. This is an opportunity to learn more about earthworms, and to observe the results of the trials firsthand. You are welcome to attend one or more of the samplings. It is expected that sampling will take about 2 hours, but this will depend on the number of helpers.
The sampling will go ahead, regardless of weather conditions.
If you would like at attend one or more sessions, or for more information, please contact Belinda
