Mallee Threatened Species Day was an interactive event held by Mallee Catchment Management Authority and the Department of Primary Industries in conjunction with Southern Mallee Landcare Network.
The day was a great opportunity for landholders and community members to learn about conservation and recovery of threatened species in the Mallee region.

0930-10:00 MEET/CUPPA

Barengi Gadjin Land Council

Members will give a ‘Welcome to Country’ opening speech.

SESSION 1

Victor Hurley (Department of Sustainability and Environment - Mildura)

Presenting a profile of the Southern Mallee locally threatened species and describing why these species are dependent on specific habitat.

SESSION 2

Biodiversity team (Mallee Catchment Management Authority - Mildura)

Explaining the importance of diversity of habitat and provide practical options for conservation of threatened species.

11:30 -12:15

SESSION 3

Fabian Douglas (entomologist and researcher – Rainbow/Nhill)

Focussing on soil biological habitat and the importance of soil dwelling insects as well as practical ways to care for and promote threatened insect species.

12:15-13:00 LUNCH

Everyone will have the opportunity to share in a BBQ lunch.

SESSION 4

Clive Crouch (environmental researcher - Nhill)

Providing an interactive talk on some of the threatened small mammals that he cares for as well as describing the practical options for their recovery.

13:45-14:30

SESSION 5

Ron Wiseman (Victorian Mallee Fowl Recovery Group VMFRG president - Hopetoun)

Opening the session with some important facts about Mallee fowl and the recovery process for the species.

Peter Stokie (convenor VMFRG New Education Package - Geelong)

Launching the new education package for primary schools across the state including DVD footage and other visual and audio information about the importance of conserving Mallee fowl.

Tea and coffee will be provided with the opportunity to ask questions of the guest speakers as well as access any additional information about threatened species habitat and conservation.
