The Superb Parrot Project commence in 1993 after research, by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resource, identified the need for the protection and revegetation of box woodland adjoining the Barmah Forest. The forest is recognising as the last known nesting site of the endangered Superb Parrot in Victoria. Clearing and developed have severely depleted box woodlands, their foraging habitat.Funding of the project initially came from ?Save the bush? funding and Cathay Pacific. Cathay Pacific continues their support through their ?Flight Paths of Green Project?.There are thirty members in the group, which is comprised of local landholders and several dedicated community membersHighlights include, a National Landcare Award in 1996 to Cathy Pacific for their Flight Paths of Green Project, the first sighting of Superb Parrots foraging in project plantations in 1997 and the funding of $59,6000 from the Natural Heritage Trust in 1997/98.
