Lockington Landcare group serves the western portion of the Rochester Irrigation District and surrounding dryland areas. Following its formation in 1993, the group, together with four other Landcare groups and three district schools, were successful in a bid for Greening Australia, ?Corridors of Green? funding. This has been used locally to revegetate a section of the disused Elmore /Cohuna rail line, linking existing remnant vegetation, and to provide a propagation house for Lockington Primary School.
Subsequent projects with the school include watertable monitoring, establishment of a nature grassland plot, and regular field trips exploring environmental issues. Complementing this partnership, the groups monthly meetings are held at the school.
