Landcare Cape Bridgewater

This long-term land care program extends restoration of severely eroded areas on Cape Duquesne and north of the Blowholes on Cape Bridgewater by encouraging students from Wesley College, Melbourne to continue a commitment made by that school to restoration of the Cape Bridgewater coastal landscape.

The projects undertaken annually by the Friends of the Great South West Walk continues valued land care work in partnership with Glenelg Hopkins CMA, volunteers of the Friends of the Great South West Walk and Wesley College staff and students.

The work includes making rolls of jute mesh filled with mulch and construction of jute mesh rope and placement of for water control. Work also requires cutting, loading, and carting trailer loads of coastal wattle to site followed by the laying of the coastal wattle over the jute rope and rolls for the protection of regenerating indigenous vegetation.

Landcare provides opportunities for other schools, local land care groups and individuals to volunteer for land care directly with the Friends of the Great South West Walk or through Park Connect - Parks Victoria.

Cape Bridgewater has a high level of visitation by the public where land care in action is demonstrated and documented.
