Since 2016, a small group of dairy farmers have been working to close the winter feed gap by sowing annual brassicas, legumes and grasses, including cereal grain, into established perennial pastures.
Many of these farmers, once dependent on buying in hay or silage over winter at significant costs, are now maintaining high milk production over winter on low cost, home-grown pastures alone.
At this workshop you what these farmers have been doing and how you can apply their experience to your farm. Renowned soil scientist, Christian Bannan, will be explaining how to get the most out of your soil type with a soil pit.
