Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR) funded a community bus trip to view the Kurranulla Erosion Control Project directed by Jim Milne, IRWIN Consulting Engineer.
Eighteen landcare members from the Hamilton Coleraine Railway Line Landcare group, Bushy Creek Landcare, Bulart Landcare and Yulecart Landcare attended the day and listen to Jim discuss details on the installation of a grated pit, draincoil, and trickle basin turf reinforcement mat. The GPF12 mat used in the project is a synthetic fibre erosion control blanket that is designed for long-term permanent erosion protection of slope and channel applications to limit the potential for sediment release on poorly vegetated slops with high flow runoff conditions and high flow channels.
Attendees were issued a copy of Heinz de Chalard’s (HdC), Catchment Health Engineering initial assessment report, as well as a written report of works done by Jim Milne, IRWIN Consulting Engineers with before and after photos & details of the control method.
The field trip ended with a lunch where everyone had the chance to liaise and discuss other landcare issues.
Thank you to Gerard & Anne Hiscock for their hospitality and morning tea.
