The Bairnsdale Urban Landcare Group focus its activities on restoring the Mitchell River Environs to a natural state allowing for native habitat to be re-established, allow native vegetation to regenerate and revegetate where necessary. The group area covers the precinct of the Mitchell River in the city of Bairnsdale, either side of the river between the Lind Bridge and Princes Hwy Bridge an area of approximately 135 hectares. The Bairnsdale Urban  Landcare Group formed in 1999 .

The  group has a membership base of 28 families,  most of which are residents of the Bairnsdale urban community.
