This project has increased the habitat area and improved biodiversity in an extensively cleared landscape by the planting of 6000 tubestock to revegetate 4.0 ha with mixed local indigenous species.
Rabbit harbour and threats to remnant vegetation on nearby stoney barriers and around RAMSAR lakes has been reduced by the removal of 3.3 ha of the boxthorn (weed of national significance).
14 different landholders were involved in the project activities, and contributed to improving the natural environment.
Landholders contributed towards cost of materials for stockproof fencing, and labour and machinery for erection of fences, preparation of sites and planting of tubestock. Landholders also contributed 50% of cost of boxthorn removal.
This project was funded the 2012/13 Caring for our Country grant
