TLG SUBSIDY FOR RABBIT ERADICATION
Thanks to the grant, SGLG1011, Torquay Landcare is able to help
landholders who have a rabbit problem but who experience difficulty
with eradication because of inaccessible terrain - say near a creek
bed, or in bushland, or adjacent to large trees.  Hiring machinery to
do this eradication work is expensive, and the grant enables up to a
50:50 subsidy for machinery such as an excavator 3-4.5 ton @ $120 per
hour.Criteria for assistance:1 Eradication, which
will lend the greatest strength to biodiversity, will be given priority
(e.g. this means proximity to creek bed or bushland or remnant
vegetation or large old trees);1 Preference will also be given to landholders who are working with clusters of neighbours to try to remove rabbits.3 Eradication methods such as baiting or ripping of open farming country are not eligible for this  subsidy.4 The eradication method subsidised on this occasion requires heavy machinery such as excavator with ripper attached.5
On application, Landholders who request the subsidy, must be financial
members of Torquay Landcare Group. If unsure whether your household is
currently a financial member or if you would like to become a financial
member, check with the Membership Secretary, Lesley Evans 03 52614161
<laevans1@bigpond.com>.6 Landholders who send in an
expression of interest to Torquay Landcare Group, will be visited by a
TLG Project Officer who will inspect the rabbit infestation sites, and
advise the TLG Committee as to priorities.  The TLG committee will make
the final decision.7 Interested landholders are to send an
‘expression of interest’ form to The Secretary, Torquay Landcare Group,
PO Box 431, Torquay 3228, or Email <paw@aussiebroad.com.au>
‘Expression
of Interest’ forms are available online.Biodiversity Without Rabbits EOI
