The Winter and early Spring rains will provide an excellent start for the 2016 Quiksilver plantings, and topping off the day the wind dropped, the cloud cover was high and the temperature just right for some manual work.
With the school holidays in progress many of the Quiksilver crew took the opportunity to bring along their children/teenagers, and the mixture of ages certainly enhanced the chat and banter.
An equipment base was set up near the Torquay Netball courts, with all the necessary equipment out and ready for action.
Base two was at the Torquay Tennis Club rooms, with Terry and Kelly (thank you Bunnings) organising morning tea and preparing the lunch.
The Quiksilver crew, along with a supply of hats, were certainly full of their usual high spirits, and enthusiasm. A quick walk up the viewing spot once again highlighting how much the previous years’ work has altered and improved this section of Spring Creek.
Whilst everyone walked up the hill Simon was busy on the auger drilling holes, and Graeme (Westcoast Indigenous plant nursery) who was suffering with a cold, along with Gabrielle (Surf Coast Shire) laid out the plants.
An hour or so of frantic activity and it was back to base one for morning tea. More conversations plenty of laughter and then back to action.
The final hour was back to the east side of Spring Creek planting a few more seedlings and then in for an excellent lunch.
Many people contribute to this day and on this occasion we had 52 enthusiastic workers. Thank you to you all.
Thank you though in particular to Eve for coordinating and organising the Quiksiliver Crew, Gabrielle for the Shire preparation and her support, Graeme for the hours spent in advance of the day discussing plants, collecting and growing seeds then assisting on the day, Kelly from Bunnings for helping with all the catering and supplying extra equipment, Simon for getting those holes prepared, and Peach’s, Bakers Delight and Torquay IGA for their contributions.
If you get a chance do go for a walk along Bowman’s Track, it really is a gem in Torquay.
Thank you also to everyone on the TLG committee for their work.
We look forward to Quiksilver 2017!
