The Estuary of the Barham River is of State Significance as it consists of the largest tidal meanders (or backwaters) of any river in Western Victoria. SOLN has been given funding to restore this important wetland area by fencing to restrict stock access and revegetating 13ha with 20,000 seedlings from Estuarine Swamp Scrub species. This project is of great importance to our vision of an ecologically healthy Barham River from Source to Sea and we have already completed fencing the site and preparation for planting. We hope that everyone who has shown great passion for the Barham River shares our excitement in this project and joins us on National Tree Day Sunday 02 August 2009 to plant out the eastern and northern sections of the restoration project. As well as putting in as many plants as we can we will also be treated to talks by Wetlands and Swamp Scrub experts Becky McCann and Geoff Carr explaining the significance of both the Barham Backwaters, Swamp Scrub communities and Wetland processes.
